WASHINGTON-The House Judiciary Committee was scheduled to mark up the Financial Services Regulatory Relief Act (H.R. 1375) at press time. Just one item concerning credit unions, the pre-merger notification exemption provision, falls under the Judiciary Committee's jurisdiction. NAFCU Senior Legislative Representative Murray Chanow said the issue had been discussed in last year's debates and he did not anticipate any changes to the credit union provision. While he expects the markup to go smoothly, it was listed last on the committee's schedule for consideration of one resolution and seven bills last Wednesday. The committee had allotted time on Thursday for unfinished business from the markup.
