CNBS was created in 1989 to give credit unions a credit union industry option for broker/dealer services. It was originally owned by U.S. Central, CUNA Mutual Group and CUNA Service Group. In 1996 U.S. Central became the sole owners. Then in 1998 it was spun off and owned by corporate credit unions. Now it looks like ownership will shift to CNBS' clients – natural person credit unions.
