ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has tapped Jeffrey Steele, deputy to the Asset Management Assistance Center president, to become the new associate regional director of programs in Austin, Texas as of May 5. In his new post, Steele will be responsible for the Region V field program and manage approximately 90 examiners. Steele rapidly rose through the ranks at NCUA from examiner in 1987 to assignment at the Asset Management Assistance Center in 1990 to risk management in the Office of Examination and Insurance in 1991 to become a supervisory examiner in 1993. In 1995, he was named director of special actions in Region I. "Jeff's career path encompasses experience at all levels with different challenges and increasing levels of difficulty which provides a solid foundation for expanded management responsibilities," NCUA Executive Director Len Skiles commented on the promotion. Steele is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University with a B.B.A. in accounting. Since coming to NCUA, he has been honored as Region I Supervisor of the Year in 1994 and Asset Management and Assistance Center Supervisor of the Year in 2000.
