Mountain America CUSO Hits Insurance Trail with BIS

SALT LAKE CITY – Mountain America Credit Union has selected Springfield, Massachusetts-based BIS, a turnkey insurance solutions provider, to help provide its members insurance products and services through its Mountain America Financial Services CUSO. The move is part of BIS' strategic "western expansion" plan and marks the company's first appearance in Utah. Under the arrangement, Mountain America Financial Services members will have access to a full array of insurance products and services from national carriers. The CUSO will own the member insurance policies and member renewals while BIS Inc. manages the business and operational risk. The CUSO plans to use this deal to get an insurance agency, dubbed Mountain American Insurance Agency, off the ground in a short period of time. "This is a significant partnership for Mountain America", said Don Clark, president of the new Mountain America Insurance Agency. "The BIS solution will allow us to have a fully operational insurance agency up and operational in just a matter of months." The $1 billion credit union is BIS' second western "coup". Earlier this year Broomfield, Colorado-based Community Financial Federal Credit Union's CUSO also turned to BIS.
