MADISON, Wis. – The California Credit Union League has donated $25,000 in unrestricted funds to the National Credit Union Foundation, the NCUF said. The League made the donation in honor of Ed Callahan, recently retired CEO of Patelco Credit Union. Although the funds were donated in Callahan's honor, the League stipulated that they were not investments in the so-called Callahan Fund, a special Fund which has been set up within NCUF to make donations to credit unions working in cooperative development and financial literacy. "We wanted to honor this man who has made such a significant contribution to credit unions, particularly to those here in California," says David Chatfield, president and CEO of the California Credit Union League. "We believe this contribution is a fitting tribute to Ed and all he has stood for throughout his career." For the past several years, the California Credit Union League has been a Foundation supporter at the $25,000 level or above. "We are proud to count the California league among our many friends," commented Gary Officer, NCUF's executive director. "They have been very good to us, and we are grateful for their continued support. That this year's donation is being made in honor of Ed Callahan is particularly meaningful." Callahan was recently elected to the NCUF Board of Directors and is receiving the Foundation's 2003 Herb Wegner Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement.
