WASHINGTON-NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar met recently with Assistant to the President and Director of the USA Freedom Corps John Bridgeland to compare notes on the administration's initiatives to encourage volunteerism across America and the role credit unions can play as an avenue to volunteer services within the credit union, as well as serving communities nationwide through NCUA's "Access Across America" initiative. The parties discussed the agency's recent work in eliminating regulatory and programmatic barriers to aid credit unions in better serving their members and enhancing service opportunities. Dollar explained his RegFlex program and the concept of earned regulatory relief. "The president's senior team is aware of the good work of credit unions throughout the United States and is closely following our Access Across America initiative," Dollar assured. "We continue to maintain an open dialogue with the White House staff and are encouraged by their ongoing interest in matters of importance to credit unions and all Americans." President George W. Bush created the USA Freedom Corps by Executive Order and appointed Bridgeland to lead the initiative in early 2002. He is the former deputy assistant to the president and director of the Domestic Policy Council.
