ATLANTA – SunTrust Bank announced it will accept a document called a "matricula consula" as proof of identify from Mexican immigrants who cannot open bank accounts because they lack required identity documents. According to The Palm Beach Post, a West Palm Beach, Fla. daily newspaper, Hugh Suhr, a SunTrust spokesman said the bank determined there was a business opportunity to meet a definite customer need. Branches of SunTrust in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington, D.C. will accept matricula consula by the end of April.
