The House Financial Services Committee plans to discuss how the government can encourage job creation and what impact the rising debt has on the economy at its first hearing of the new Congress next Wednesday.

"Our small businesses need certainty from Washington in order to expand and hire workers. If we are to enjoy a full economic recovery, new job creation must come from the private sector. Sustainable economic growth is our main objective, and this hearing is just the beginning of our work to ensure government is encouraging, not inhibiting, job creation and economic recovery," Chairman Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) said in a statement.

He added that the panel plans to hold a series of hearings to review the "various roadblocks that small businesses and community banks are facing."

The committee plans to announce witnesses at a later date.

The hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. ET, will be broadcast on the web at http://republicans.financialservices.house.gov/.
