Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who remains in critical condition after an assassination attempt on Saturday, has been helped by credit union political action committees in all three of her difficult campaigns.
CUNA's Credit Union Legislative Action Council contributed a total of $11,500 during those three campaigns including $2,000 for last year's race.
NAFCU's National Association of Federal Credit Unions' Political Action Committee, gave her 2006 campaign $1,000.
Giffords, who represents a Tucson-area district, is not on any committees with jurisdiction over credit union issues. She was a small business owner, and ran her family's tire store chain, before getting into politics.
She remains in critical condition in a Tucson hospital after a shooting rampage in which six people were killed and 12 were injured.
Dr. Peter Rhee, the hospital's trauma director, described the extent of Giffords' injuries at a televised news conference on Sunday.
""This wasn't a little grazing wound through the brain, this was a devastating wound that traveled the entire length of the brain on the left side," Rhee said.
