The Arizona Credit Union League said Saturday's rampage left everyone there with "heavy hearts," but praised those in Tucson for being a "shining light" because of the city's handling of the aftermath.
"Tucson has always been a very tight knit community, which proved invaluable during the last few days. From the first responders to the doctors at the University Medical Center, all of us are proud of the heroism shown by Tucson residents," the statement said.
The league plans to make a donation to Tucson's Community Food Bank, one of the charities that Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' husband suggested people donate to in her honor.
Giffords (D-Ariz.) remains in critical condition because of the brain injuries she suffered and the neurosurgeon who operated on her said today she is "not out of the woods yet."
Six people were killed in the rampage and 14 people were injured.
