City County Credit Union staff and members are mourning the death of longtime President/CEO William Marquardt, who recently lost his battle with cancer.
Marquardt was first introduced to credit unions in 1989 when he served as operations vice president at the Miami, Fla.-based Tropical Telco Credit Union. He then joined City County CU in 1993 and is credited with helping the credit union grow from $67 million in assets to $275 million and serving 21,000 members to over 43,000 members. In addition, during his tenure, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based credit union grew from four to nine branches.
Throughout his 21 years in the credit union industry, Marquardt's dedication to member service resulted in several innovative solutions, ranging from Encore Second Chance accounts for credit-impaired members to launching AutoBranch, CCCU's credit union dealership focused on delivering fair prices.
Active in the greater credit union community, Marquardt also volunteered his talent and time to several organizations including the Florida Credit Union League, Southeast Corporate, South Florida Acceptance Corporation and CUES. He was also a founding member of the City Services Group and served on the Florida Credit Union Political Action Committee.
Marquardt is survived by his wife, Donna, and their two children.
