CHARLOTTE, N.C. — With gas prices skyrocketing to an all-time high what better time to once again promote a Carolina Postal Credit Union hybrid auto loan.
Taking closer aim at the young adult market, CPCU has given its hybrid loan offer a youth makeover with regular ads in its seasonal brassCU Magazine, which is written by and for young people ages 18-25 and talks all about money.
In addition to enjoying a 1% discount on hybrid loans, every member that gets a CPCU loan for a hybrid/alternative fuel vehicle, Carolina Postal will purchase a Gift of Green from BeGreenNow of Green Mountain Energy. For each Gift of Green a tree is planted in Kootenai National Forest.
BeGreenNow is partnering with American Forests to plant trees in the once-majestic Kootenai National Forest in Montana. For this reforestation project, Ponderosa Pine trees are being planted to help the forest recover from large forest fires in 2000. In addition to absorbing CO2, the new trees will also help restore the wildlife habitat that was destroyed, and return the forest to its former glory.
"While our younger members may not be ready to purchase a hybrid, research shows that this group is very environmentally conscious so we wanted to put a twist on what's out there by planting a tree to really give something back," said CPCU Vice President of Marketing/Business Development Deb McLean.
She added that the gift of green helps the credit union go one step further than anyone else in the area and it only costs the credit union $9.99 per tree. Thank you gift cards made of recycled paper are sent to members and include an ornament that can be hung from a tree or planted to produce either a cilantro or chili pepper plant.
"We were willing to go up to $50 per tree because it is simply a good thing to do for the environment and then a Google search turned up BeGreenNow and we thought it was great to help fund the planting of trees in a national forest that needs reforesting," said McLean. "It is all for a good cause and we're tickled that everyone wins including the planet."
