SANTA ROSA, Calif. — Redwood Credit Union will be celebrating National Credit Union Youth Week with the national theme "Got Green? Grow It at Your Credit Union!"

Planned festivities include free educational seminars for children and teens, contests, informative handouts, giveaways and more.

"National Credit Union Youth Week provides us a great opportunity to educate young people about financial matters in a fun and exciting way," said RCU's Education Manager Efren Carrillo. "Promoting financial literacy is vital in helping children and teens to learn money management skills at an early age, which will benefit them for a lifetime. And with the green element of this year's theme, we will also encourage kids to be aware of the environment and things they can do to help."

Youth seminar topics will include "Teaching Kids How to Save" for children and their parents; "On Your Way to Financial Independence" and "Don't Get Caught in the Credit Trap" for teens. Sessions are scheduled at RCU's administrative offices and its Novato branch. In addition, RCU will be hosting a coloring contest and a $100 Savings Challenge Sweepstakes for youths who make a deposit into their savings account during Youth Week.

RCU's Youth Accounts program is divided into two groups: Jr. Rangers for children up through age 12 and Jr. Partners for teenagers, ages13-17. Both age groups receive dividends on the funds they save, a free gift when opening an RCU savings account, quarterly educational and fun newsletters, online account access and access to a special Web site with educational games and articles.
