SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Federal Credit Union Board Director Sue E. Turner was recently inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame.

The San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame, established in 1984, honors those women whose accomplishments have contributed substantially to life in South Texas. The retired Brigadier General was recognized for her outstanding personal achievement in the area of military service.

Turner gave more than 30 years of her life to the U.S. Air Force. As the former director of nursing services in the Office of the Air Force Surgeon General at Bolling AFB in Washington, D.C., she represented 23,000 men and women who provided nursing care.

She also served two tours of duty in San Antonio, as chief of the division of nursing at Wilford Hall Medical Center in 1990 and as a clinical nurse at the Lackland AFB hospital in 1969.

Over the course of her long career, she has been honored with three presidential appointments–to the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission, the Texas Veterans Commission and the American Battle Monuments Commission.

Turner's military awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and numerous other service and humanitarian awards for outstanding performance.

Turner has been a member of the SACU board since 1998. She served as board vice chair from 2001-2003. She previously chaired the nominating committee and the governance committee. Serving on the SACU supervisory committee from 1996-1998, she chaired the supervisory committee in 1998.

Currently working on a book about leadership, Turner said she has been an "utter flop" at retirement. She also serves as a grant reviewer with the San Antonio Area Foundation and sits on the board of the San Antonio Opera.

"More than anything, I've been happy to be able to help people do what they wanted to do with their careers," said Turner.
