WASHINGTON — Wolters Kluwer Financial Services and NAFCU Services Corporation is helping credit unions take proactive steps to fight internal fraud with its latest free podcast.
Credit unions focus so much on using technology solutions as a way to protect their systems, that it is all too easy to overlook 'lower-tech' sources of fraud by employees,” said David Frankil, president of NAFCU Services Corporation. “But there are established norms and best practices that financial institutions can use to address some of the risks. This podcast will show how to employ them.”
The podcast features an interview with Tom Leuchtner, senior product manager for Wolters Kluwer Financial Services' fraud prevention solutions.
“Many financial institutions focus mainly on external threats related to fraud, but The Tower Group estimates that more than 74% of all fraud perpetrated on institutions involves an insider,” said Leuchtner. “The key for a credit union in addressing internal fraud is to establish control and reporting systems that maximize their ability to detect and prevent opportunities for fraud.”
The podcast is an overview of a longer presentation to be offered at the 2008 NAFCU Technology and Security Conference in Las Vegas, Feb. 25-28.
