RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Altura Credit Union Board Director Ofelia Valdez-Yeager was recently singled out as the Minority Business Advocate of the Year at the 4th Annual Minority and Small Business Gala and Awards Ceremony of the CHARO Community Development Corporation and its CHARO — SBA Women's Center.

For 10 years, she has worked for the Riverside County Office of Education where she is the chief administrative liaison to the superintendent.

CHARO is a community-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to be an economic catalyst, providing quality services and innovative programs for the economic advancement of the underserved Los Angeles-area Latino community. Established in 1967, today CHARO ranks as one of the top Latino nonprofit organizations in the United States.

An Altura board member for 10 years, this is not Valdez-Yeager's first time being honored in the Hispanic community. Her awards over the years have included the Ohtli Award from Mexico's Department of Exterior Affairs, Influential Latina of the Year from Hispanic Lifestyle Magazine and an honor as a Woman of Achievement by the YWCA.

More than 200 people attended the awards ceremony held in the Pechanga Resort, including members of Altura management, as well as California Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries of the 66th Assembly District, and J. Adalberto Quijada, district director of the Santa Ana District Office of the Small Business Administration.
