HOBOKEN, N.J.–Credit Union Times Senior Washington Reporter Sarah Snell Cooke will be filling in as interim editor while the search for a permanent editor continues.

Editor and Publisher Paul Gentile spent his last day with the publication Nov. 30 after more than a decade and is now heading up the New Jersey Credit Union League.

Cooke has covered the Washington, D.C. news beat for Credit Union Times over the last seven years. Prior to that she spent just over a year writing for the Credit Union Regulatory Insider.

Since 1999, Cooke has been entrenched in the political, legislative, and regulatory issues impacting credit unions the most. She has provided constant on-site coverage of NCUA Board meetings, from the one that saw the approval of the Community Action Plan to the marathon meeting that repealed it, and more recently when NCUA was forced to eliminate its policy allowing all federal credit union charter types to adopt underserved areas.

As the Washington, D.C. reporter, Cooke has also covered key hearings on Capitol Hill where credit union witnesses frequently testify. She has interviewed credit union friendly lawmakers, like Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) who authored CURIA and was very helpful during 1151, and the controversial, such as Congressman Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) who previously inserted himself in the mutual savings bank conversion battle. She is also in regular contact with the top credit union lobbyists in Washington.

Cooke resides in Fulton, Md. with her husband John, five-year-old son Jacob, and two-year-old daughter Alexandra. As interim editor, she will be traveling back and forth to Credit Union Times' new Hoboken, N.J. office for a solid, hands-on experience to maintain the quality and integrity readers expect from Credit Union Times.
