ARLINGTON, Va. — Executives with the credit union industry's shared branch networks are choosing to work and stay home this summer.
When told that the Credit Union Times was seeking vacation information for the big NAFCU Conference issue Craig Beach, vice president of marketing with Credit Union Service Corporation, laughed and said he would spend some of his vacation time with his family in Hawaii in the days leading up to the NAFCU meeting.
"My daughter graduated from high school this year and is off to the University of Georgia next year," Beach said. "So we thought this would be a good time for a family trip to Hawaii to celebrate."
CUSC is currently awaiting final confirmation of its agreement for a purchase by CO-OP Financial Services, which already purchased another shared branch network, the Service Centers Corporation.
By contrast, Sarah Canepa Bang, the CEO of the Financial Service Centers Cooperatives, the nationwide shared branch network headquartered on the West Coast, says her vacation this year will mean taking a break from traveling.
"I am going on vacation next week to places I have never been before, my kitchen, my dining room, my bathroom," Bang wrote in an email sent while she was traveling for FSCC, something which she does very often. "Seriously, I am staying home and will probably not leave the house even to go get the mail.–I may not even answer the phone! I'm so very excited!"
