ALEXANDRIA, Va. - NCUA Vice Chairman Rodney Hood addressed a group of visiting students from the National Student Leadership Conference at NCUA's headquarters earlier this month.

The students dropped in at NCUA as part of their leadership development program. The NSLC is a select group of high school leaders from schools internationally.

Hood gave the group an overview of NCUA, emphasizing the role credit unions play in the American economy, and took questions. "This group of promising leaders was very interested in the credit union system, asking thoughtful and intelligent questions," the vice chairman said. "I feel that in providing younger generations with a foundational knowledge of credit unions, we are doing our part to ensure they remain true to their purpose of serving the underserved."

He also offered the student leaders advice and encouragement about pursuing their education, careers, and public service.

"I reminded these young leaders about the importance of working hard to pursue their dreams," said Hood. "It gave me great pleasure to be able to assure these students that as they work towards dreams of homeownership and starting a business, America's credit unions will be there to help make those dreams a reality."
