ARLINGTON, Va. – NAFCU is the latest to partner with the Treasury Department for its "Go Direct" campaign, which encourages the direct deposit of Social Security and other recurring federal government payments. At an Aug. 10 briefing, NAFCU President Fred Becker said the program can be a plus for credit unions because it allows credit unions to reach out to those who really need their services. Participating in the program also means the reduction of paper items handled by them on a recurring basis. Go Direct is scheduled to launch in late September in those states that have large numbers of future and current Social Security and Supplemental Security Income recipients such as California, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois, Ohio and Pennsylvania. NAFCU joins other trade groups that have partnered with Treasury for the direct deposit promotion including CUNA, American Bankers Association, Independent Community Bankers of America, IRS, FDIC, the Veterans Administration and the American Association of Retired Persons.
