COLUMBIA, Md.-Congressman Wayne Gilchrest (R-Md.) met recently with state credit union officials to discuss the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 2317). According to the Maryland Credit Union League's Focus newsletter, they discussed the possibility of the congressman signing on as a co-sponsor to CURIA. If he does, which cannot be done while Congress is in recess, Gilchrest would be the third member of Congress from Maryland to back the bill. Congressmen Al Wynn (D) and Dutch Ruppersberger (D) have already signed on. "We had a great meeting with the Congressman, and he was very impressed with the broad range of bipartisan supporters already signed onto the bill," Maryland league President and CEO Mike Beall was quoted as saying.
