KILLARNEY, Ireland – Anne O'Byrne of the Blessington, County Wicklow CU, was elected by the Irish League of Credit Unions as its first female president in the League's 47-year history. O'Byrne, who previously served as vice president of the League, succeeds outgoing president John O'Regan. In accepting the position, O'Byrne said her priority would be to reassure Ireland's CUs' 2.9 million members that "credit unions are not withdrawing from their communities." She promised to provide financial services to areas where commercial banks are no longer doing business.
