Gov. Blunt Calls CUs "Partners" in Working to Improve State's Future

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Speaking to a crowd of more than 150 credit union staff and volunteers who took part in the Missouri Credit Union Association's annual meeting here April 4-6, Gov. Matt Blunt referred to credit unions in his comments "as partners as we work toward a better future for Missouri." Speaking during the Governmental Affairs luncheon, the Republican governor thanked credit unions "for providing people the opportunity to better their lives. What credit unions are doing is important now and is important for the future." The luncheon was also the backdrop for Missouri Farmers Union CU, Missouri's first state-chartered credit union in seven years, to officially receive its charter and NCUA certificate of insurance. The three-day annual meeting provided an opportunity for credit union representatives to meet with state legislators. In addition on April 5, CU members visited the capitol building for one-on-one talks with lawmakers. The House and Senate members including state Rep. Mike Cunningham (R-145), chairman of the House Financial Institutions Committee, and Sen. Harry Kennedy (D-1) recognized CU representatives during their opening sessions.
