CUNA Spends $478K on Congressional Races
CUNA announced Monday its involvement in three competitive congressional races.
According to CUNA Vice President of Political Affairs Trey Hawkins, the trade group is conducting partisan communications in the form of direct mail sent to credit union members that encourages them to vote for specific candidates.
CUNA is spending approximately $265,000 on a series of eight mailers for Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) in the Iowa Senate race. The mailers are being sent to more than 67,000 voters who belong to a credit union.
The trade organization is also sending out four mailers for Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) to 16,000 credit union voters for his re-election campaign, costing roughly $117,000.
In addition, CUNA is also spending $96,000 on seven mailers to 25,000 credit union voters in support of Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.).
“All three have been solid credit union champions, and we're excited to work with the Iowa and Illinois leagues on these mail programs to advise credit union members of that fact,” Hawkins told CU Times on Monday.
The partisan communications initiatives are being funded directly by CUNA separate from CULAC, the group’s political action committee.
