APPLETON, Wis. – Miller Electric Credit Union’s efforts in financial education for youth has earned the $19 million CU a prestigious Congressional Record submitted by U.S. Rep. Mark Green (R-Wis.). The record was presented to Congress on Feb. 28 and recognizes MECU for innovative programs that help their members and Fox Cities-area youth learn about money management and budgeting. In presenting the record, Green lauded MECU’s partnership with area schools and the success of the CU’s targeted financial initiatives, as well as MECU’s kids program, the Undersea Savers Club, that teaches their youngest members the importance of setting financial goals and saving money for the future. MECU was also cited for winning the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award at the national level for three years. The CU is also actively involved as a sponsor and presenter at the annual Fox Cities Money Conference held in the fall at Fox Valley Technical College. Miller Electric Credit Union continues to play a leading and innovative role in teaching kids practical skills about money management while also making it fun, said Green. Their ongoing commitment and track record in developing successful personal financial education outreach initiatives is impressive, the congressman added. MECU has more than 2,700 members. Originally chartered to serve employees and their families of Miller Electric Manufacturing Company, MECU now has a community charter. Its field of membership includes anyone associated with Miller Electric as well as anyone living or working in Outagamie, Calumet, Winnebago or Waupaca counties.
