LATHAM, N.Y. – Newly elected lawmakers to the New York State legislature and their staffs had the opportunity Jan. 19 to meet with New York State Credit Union League staff and affiliated credit union representatives for a "CUs 101″ informational breakfast hosted by the League. "CUs 101″ is a bi-annual event held every two years after state elections. NYSCUL Vice President of Governmental Affairs Amy Kramer said it's always to credit unions' advantage when they can meet with newly elected legislators so early in the legislative session to show how important credit unions are in the everyday life of their constituents. Among the legislators attending were Assemblyman Robert Reilly (D-Capital) and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo (D-Southern Tier). During the event, the freshmen lawmakers heard about the cooperative, not-for-profit nature of credit unions, the credit union movement in New York State, and the NYSCUL's 2005 legislative agenda. They each received a packet of credit union reference material legislative staff can refer to when they outline their positions on legislation that could impact New York State CUs. Packets were also personally delivered to new lawmakers who were unable to attend.
