RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – The California Credit Union League has concluded its program to aid the victims of the California wildfires that burned 750,000 acres in five counties in the state near the end of October. The League was able to provide 347 grants totaling $167,900 to credit union staff, volunteers and members. During November and December, the League's Disaster Relief Fund and the National Credit Union Foundation's 2003 California Wildfires Fund received $167,915. CCUL President/CEO David Chatfield, on behalf of the “thousands of members of our extended credit union family in California” affected by the fires, thanked everyone who contributed to the relief funds. In recognition of the heroic work performed by firefighters from California and other states, the CCUL contributed $10,000 to the Richard Myles Johnson foundation as seed money to fund a post-secondary scholarship program for the dependents of California firefighters.
