Minnesota Supreme Court Affirms Franken Victory
6/30/2009

The U.S. Senate may soon get some comic relief.

The Minnesota Supreme Court today unanimously ruled that Democratic Farm Labor Party Candidate and former comedian Al Franken had won that state’s U.S. Senate election last November against incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.).

Shortly after the decision was announced, Coleman conceded and said he would not appeal the decision in federal court.

Once Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty certifies the result and the Senate seats Franken, the Democrats will have a 60-seat majority. Currently, there are 57 Democrats and two independents–Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut and Bernie Sanders of Vermont—who organize with the Democrats.

CUNA’s political action committee contributed $10,000 to Coleman’s campaign and NAFCU’s PAC gave Coleman $1,000.
