Last week’s Iowa Credit Union League convention contributed to the 100th anniversary celebration of credit unions by opening a special museum in the exhibit hall and offering $100 commemorative posters drawn by a Des Moines artist depicting CU history.
League officials said they were going all out to mark the anniversary celebration to showcase CU achievements to the public at a time consumers are showing renewed interest in member eligibility.
The “Spirit of a Century” museum is a roped off section of the Polk County Convention Center where visitors can watch videos and signs charting both national and Iowa timelines of CU history.
In line with the anniversary activities, league officials said they were hoping for a higher turnout after lowering registration fees and early indications that policy was working. Early last week 350 had signed up for advance registration compared to the 300 who attended the 2008 annual conference.
The $100 historical posters, sponsored by CUNA Mutual, were drawn by Des Moines Register cartoonist Brian Duffy. Proceeds from the poster sale are going to the Iowa Credit Union Foundation.
