A record number of 4,300 attendees and more than 230 exhibitors are set to converge Feb. 23-27 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., for the Credit Union National Association's 2014 Governmental Affairs Conference.
Organizers say it will be the largest exhibit hall in the conference's history.
“The combination of great attendance, a sold-out exhibit hall and an incomparable speaker line-up makes the 2014 CUNA GAC a must-attend event,” Todd Spiczenski, senior vice president, Center for Professional Development, at CUNA, stated in a recent press release.
With more than 350 booths expected, it might be challenging to navigate the plethora of products and services being pitched.
Whether you’re searching for a solution to improve asset liability management, mobile banking services or personal financial management, this year's GAC will be packed with hands-on demonstrations, virtual tours, webinars and other information about new gadgets and top tech tools.
For example, GAC attendees that visit Buffalo Pacific's booth might feel as if they’re stepping onto Star Trek's holodeck. The Naples, Fla., technology provider is offering walk-through tours of its 3D telepresence video communication system, which credit unions can use to enable members and staff to engage in real-time virtual meetings, and to build member relationships, said Bruce Clapp, the company's vice chairman and chief marketing officer.
“The key is the ability to open revenue-generating services, such as loans, new accounts and investment referrals, while leveraging time, talent and location resources to be more efficient,” Clapp said.
More than 25 Omni-Suite units have been deployed since June, when the $194 million MidUSA Credit Union in Middletown, Ohio, became thefirst U.S. credit union to deploy the technology.
Credit unions are using Omni-Suite to facilitate and improve loan processing, business services and branch communications, he said, and two CUSOs are also leveraging the technology and promoting it to other cooperatives.
“We believe credit unions want and need to transform their member experience, and the Omni-Suite Series represents the best, most efficient and ‘wow’ generating connection available,” said Wayne Benson, president/CEO of Birmingham, Ala.-based EPL, a data system and technology solutions CUSO.
Unlike traditional video conferencing, telepresence technology provides virtual full-eye contact and life-sized images with theater quality sound, Benson said.
“As a CUSO with clients across the U.S., we are in a unique position to promote the transformation that the Omni-Series represents, and GAC is a once-a-year opportunity to reach CEOs in a one-on-one environment,” he added.
What's on the horizon for Buffalo Pacific? The company hopes to go where no technology vendor has gone before, Clapp said.
“We have a detailed ROI model that we are proving out and we will have 150 units deployed by the end of the year,” he said. “Plus, we are developing a ‘Telepresence Branch’ model that is a 70- to 100-square-foot, fully interactive and functional ‘branch’ for remote locations, SEG placements or within a branch.”
GAC attendees can also check out a new CRM tool called KeyInsight, which San Diego-based Corelation Inc. recently added to that company's KeyStone core systems.
Theresa Benavidez, Corelation's president, said the company is looking forward to showcasing its products at GAC.
“This is an important time in the evolution of our company and 2014 is going to be a great year for Corelation,” Benavidez said. “We now have 20 signed contracts with 12 live credit unions, including Michigan First, which went live over President's Day weekend. This is our largest conversion to date and everything has gone off without a hitch.
KeyInsight can track every member interaction desired by a credit union, which allows it to build a treasure trove of useful information to analyze, Benavidez said.
The platform automatically queues and notifies user groups of opportunities for immediate follow up, and streamlines access to member data across all branches and channels, the company said.
KeyInsight's functionality is fully accessible through the core's KeyBridge API and interactions with members and subsequent opportunities can be created through any access channel, including mobile banking, interactive voice response and member-facing applications, the company said.
By enabling credit unions access to vast data, KeyInsight yields many opportunities for product sales and enhanced engagement, and the data can be further analyzed using KeyStone's built-in analysis tool, the company said.
GAC exhibitor Continuity Control, a New Haven, Conn., financial technology firm, will be on hand to discuss its compliance management system, which is designed to automate all regulatory management activities and continually update information about evolving NCUA regulations, said Andy Greenawalt, the company's co-founder and CEO.
Recently Continuity opened up its CMS platform, enabling clients to integrate their software, such as core processing systems, Greenawalt said.
The company's automated compliance management system, aimed at small and mid-sized credit unions, tracks NCUA regulations and translates the information into clear language and tasks required to comply, he said.
The solution is priced in accordance with an institution's assets, with annual subscription fees ranging from around $10,000 to $25,000, Greenawalt said.
Regulatory assistance is included with the compliance management system subscription at no extra charge, which enables credit union staff to contact a Continuity Compliance specialist via phone or online chat, the company said.
The tool is often used by CEOs at the company's smaller credit unions clients, as well as by compliance officers at larger institutions, the company said.
Other vendors are also taking GAC booths to a new level.
Fiserv plans to host an in-booth theater, where industry experts will discuss an array of hot topics, including “Delivering the Ideal Digital Banking Experience, “Evolution of Electronic Payments” and “Core Extensibility: There's an App for That,” the company said.
BancVue's booth will be touting a major revamp of its personal financial management (PFM) service and a new partnership with MoneyDesktop.
Austin, Texas-based BancVue and Utah-based MoneyDesktop recently announced that they collaborated to enhance Kasasa 360, which was launched in 2012.
