Navy Federal Credit Union said Monday all of its staff at its branch on the grounds of the Washington Navy Yard were safe after the shooting rampage there that took a dozen lives.
The Naval Sea Systems Command houses a number of different military buildings at the sprawling site and is the workplace of roughly 3,000 civilian and military personnel.
Police said Monday that 13 people were killed, including the gunman.
The $54 billion, 4.3 million-member credit union maintains a branch on the ground floor of the headquarters of the Naval District of Washington building, according to its website.
A spokesman for the credit union said the branch was closed because the facility was locked down.
Personnel have been told to shelter in place until told they may evacuate. Helicopters and ambulances have been on the scene so far this morning evacuating wounded.
