During the past seven months, more than 1,000 stories about credit unions helping communities have been posted on CU SocialGood.com, a website launched by the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas of Bismarck, N.D., to share good news about credit unions across the country.
For example, the $391 million, 45,000-member ABNB Federal Credit Union in Chesapeake, Va., recently posted a story announcing that it will be donating $84,000 to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters through the Children’s Miracle Network with proceeds from its 10th Annual Fishing Fest.
Similar stories of donations, scholarships and other good deeds are daily fodder on the website, unveiled in January by CUAD.
To celebrate the site’s 1,000th posting, CUAD recently announced that it is giving away 25 customized T-shirts to credit union employees that sign up to receive Spotlight – a weekly e-newsletter that highlights postings on CU Social Good. Winners will be randomly selected from all Spotlight subscribers and notified on Aug. 30, according to a CUAD press release.
“Credit unions give back to their local communities in an amazing variety of creative and generous ways, and credit union employees and members are well known for their volunteer work and charitable fundraising events,” CUAD said in the release.
“The website can be used by all in our industry for legislative lobbying efforts, awareness campaigns and community relations, but above all, to help generate a new public awareness that will help us to remain successful in our mission for years to come,” the league said.
CUAD encourages other credit unions to submit stories to the site by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
