Email Alerts Point to No-Fee ATMs
The 70,000-member, $1.7 billion Technology Credit Union in San Jose, Calif., and Houston-based Cardtronics Inc., the largest independent ATM deployer in the country, have teamed up to let members know about fee-free ATMs that they might be missing.
Dubbed FeeAlert, the Cardtronics program takes data from participating Tech CU members’ ATM use and then sends the members an email if they pay a fee at an ATM which charges one.
Cardtronics is the parent company of the Allpoint Network, a nationwide system of fee-free ATMs in which Tech CU participates.
If a Tech CU member who is auto enrolled in the program pays a fee for ATM use, the ATM use data is sent to the FeeFree platform which then generates an email to the member that alerts them, using geo-location information, of fee-free ATMs that were close by and which might be used instead in the future.
“Tech CU is always looking for ways we can use technology to save our members time and money—and FeeAlert from Cardtronics is a great example," said Joe Anzalone, chief banking officer for Tech CU. "An easy-to-use, unobtrusive use of a smart technology, FeeAlert helps to further improve the Tech CU banking experience."
Rick Updyke, president, North America Business Group, for Cardtronics, said, "FeeAlert can't read minds, but it can send helpful reminders after a transaction, giving cardholders an opportunity to save the fee the next time around."
