Sequestration Town Hall Planned by Washington State Credit Unions

Three Kitsap-area credit unions in Washington state are holding “Surviving Sequestration: A Community Town Hall” on Tuesday, March 26, at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton, Wash.

They are the $25 million, 2,800-member Connection CU of Silverdale, Wash.; $963 million, 93,400-member Kitsap CU of Bremerton, Wash.; and the $150 million, 17,500-member Peninsula Community FCU of Shelton, Wash.

The Tuesday evening event is open to the public and will feature a resource fair and speakers on the decisions that need to be made, and resources available to help make those decisions, by households that could lose 20% of their income due to federal budget cuts.

“These are questions that roughly 16,000 local Department of Defense civilian employees, contractors, their families, and other members of the community could be facing this year as leaders wrestle with how to meet mandated budget cuts due to sequestration,” the credit unions said in their announcement.

Times of financial change create new financial, physical, and emotional needs, the organizers said. “(We) want to work with members and the community to be proactive in thinking through their household financial scenario as it may be impacted by this particular situation.”
