The $256 million Freedom FCU of Bel Air, Md., is reaching out to local businesses that may need to finance tax payments after a local payroll service firm allegedly pocketed payroll taxes.
AccuPay, a payroll firm also headquartered in Bel Air, was closed Feb. 27, according to reports in the Baltimore Sun, after two clients filed suit claiming AccuPay had collected nearly $400,000 combined in payroll taxes but failed to send them to the government. President/CEO Rose Ann Lambert said Freedom is offering its financial assistance to help these businesses pay unexpected expenses to meet state and/or federal government payroll tax withholdings for remittance to the IRS.
“Freedom is committed to being a good neighbor and giving back to the Harford County community by helping whenever possible in financial matters during this challenging time,” she said in a release.
Freedom FCU has a community charter that serves Harford County. The 31,100-member credit union has five branches.
