Credit Unions for Kids said this week that it raised $10.2 million for 159 children’s hospitals in the United States in 2012, a new record.
The Salt Lake City-based campaign said approximately 3,000 credit unions participated as the campaign bested its 2011 mark by $1.5 million for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
The collaborative efforts by credit unions ranks the industry third among the CMN’s corporate partners in fundraising, Credit Union for Kids said.
“Their performance speaks volumes about the character of those in the movement. Given the challenges facing the industry, credit unions could have cut back on their fundraising but instead they increased their giving in 2012 by over 15%,” said John Lauck, president/CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Credit Unions for Kids said 2012 highlights included the CO-OP Financial Services Miracle Match program; two leave-behind projects at hospitals in St. Petersburg, Fla., and Charlotte, N.C.,; the Cherry Blossom races in Washington; wine auction events in the Pacific Northwest and California; golf tournaments in Phoenix and Tampa; a statewide walk in Ohio and Miracle Jeans Day across the nation.
The industry has raised $110 million for the children’s hospitals since Credit Unions for Kids began in 1996.
Credit Union for Kids said there will be three campaigns this year, including the Change A Child’s Life coin drive, which runs through April 30. Credit unions can order free campaign kits online.
