The $567 million Sb1 Federal Credit Union in Philadelphia has opened its first street-level branch.

The 31,800-member Sb1 now has six branches – three publicly accessible and three in areas restricted to SEG employee – and said it decided to move its main branch to the high-visibility site at 1500 Spring Garden St. as part of its mission of aligning its branch with colleges, collaborating with community ambassadors and events, and providing financial education programs.

Sb1 was originally chartered to serve employees of GlaxoSmithKline, which has moved to the Philadelphia Navy Yard, where the credit union opened another branch recently.

Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Philadelphia, south of Lehigh Avenue.

Balloons festoon the front door of Sb1 FCU's new branch in downtown Philadelphia.
