The $1.8 billion, 340,000-member Municipal Credit Union in New York City said it closed its branches, call center and corporate office at 3 p.m. Friday because of a blizzard the National Wather Service said is expected to generate up to 14 inches of snow and strong winds in the Big Apple.

“The credit union will make a decision early tomorrow morning regarding whether or not its branches will be open or closed for Saturday business,” said MCU spokesperson Sherry Goldman. “Members can check the website for updates.”
Over on Long Island, the $5.1 billion, 211,001-member Bethpage Federal Credit Union in Bethpage, N.Y. said it is closing its 25 branches throughout Long Island at 5 p.m. All of its branches are usually open until 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays.
Throughout the New York tri-state area, the blizzard is expected to drop as much as 18 to 35 inches of snow Friday and into Saturday. The Credit Union League of Connecticut office in Meriden and the Massachusetts Credit Union League office in Marlborough, Mass., were closed Friday. However, staff members from both leagues were monitoring emails and voice messages and responding to inquiries from credit unions.
