NAFCU Confab to Include UFCU Cyber Attack Session

Some timely hometown lessons in international cybercrime have been added to the agenda of NAFCU’s Technology and Security set for Feb. 26-28 in Austin, Texas.

Staff from the $1.5 billion University Federal Credit Union will lead a session on their response to a Distributed Denial of Service attack that took down the Austin credit union’s website for about two and a half hours on Jan. 24.

UFCU was one of two credit unions (Patelco is the other) named by the Al-Qassam Cyber Fighters named as targets after their sites were taken down by the purportedly Iran-backed cyber attackers.

Keynote speaker at the conference at the Sheraton Austin at the Capitol will John Sileo, a victim of identity theft – which cost his clients $300,000 and him nearly his freedom – who has gone on to become an author and adviser on privacy and reputation.

Other session topics include data loss prevention, social media and online threats, business continuity and preparing for FFIEC exams.

NAFCU said 100 to 150 credit union professionals are expected to attend. Deadline for hotel registration is Friday.
