More than 19 million employed Americans are expected to look for new jobs in 2013, according to a new survey by Cornerstone OnDemand, a Los Angeles-based provider of talent management software solutions.
Another survey conducted by CareerBuilder found that 32% of employers lost their top performers to other organizations last year, and 39% of employers say they are worried this will happen again in 2013.
This employee turnover can be costly for companies. The average cost to recruit and train one employee is estimated at 2.5 times an employee’s salary, according to Cornerstone OnDemand.
Aside from compensation and benefits, the Cornerstone survey found that the following would motivate employees to stay in their current position:
- A good manager that employees enjoy working for……….……48%
- Feeling appreciated by supervisor or employer…………………46%
- Career advancement opportunities………………………………39%
- A promotion or new title…………………………………………38%
- Liking and respecting co-workers………………………………..36%
- Recognition for accomplishments from supervisor………………35%
- Opportunity to learn and develop new skills………………………32%
- Receiving regular feedback that supports success…………………..26%
Nearly 500 nationally representative employed Americans age 18 and older took the email and online survey, the company said. The survey’s margin of error is plus or minus 4.4% at a 95% level of confidence, Cornerstone OnDemand reported.
