President Barack Obama will take a public oath of office around noon today in Washington.
Credit union offices in the nation’s capital, including the NCUA, CUNA and NAFCU, are closed in observance of the event and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, as are credit unions around the land.
Credit union industry officials said they planned to attend some of the inaugural activities.
CUNA spokesman Pat Keefe said President/CEO Bill Cheney had planned to attend the “Black Tie & Boots” inaugural ball, hosted by the Texas State Society, on Saturday night.

Cheney will also attend the swearing-in ceremony in front of the U.S. Capitol Monday and will watch the parade with other dignitaries from a perch at the Newseum.
Keefe said other CUNA employees also were planning to watch the parade, which runs along Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House.
NAFCU spokeswoman Patty Briotta said NAFCU officials also planned to attend some inaugural festivities.
Obama took the legal oath of office Sunday in the White House; the U.S. Constitution requires the oath to be administered on Jan. 20.
Chief Justice John Roberts presided over Sunday’s oath and will do so again today. Vice President Joe Biden also took his legal oath of office Sunday. Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor presided over the event, which took place at Biden’s home at the Marine Observatory.
