NAFCU Bolsters Regulatory Counsel Staff

NAFCU said Thursday it has promoted Tessema Tefferi to senior regulatory affairs counsel and hired two more attorneys to work in that area.

P.J. Hoffman is a University of Miami Law School graduate who had been working as a finance director for a Virginia congressional candidate and is licensed to practice law in Illinois, the trade group said.

Angela Meyster had been a law clerk at the Financial Services Roundtable where the graduate of the Cardozo School of Law in New York had helped with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s reconciliation of the Truth in Lending Act with the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, NAFCU said.

They both will carry the title of regulatory affair counsel, the trade group said.

“The pace of regulation now is unprecedented,” said Carrie Hunt, NAFCU general counsel and vice president of regulatory affairs. “With the promotion of Tessema and the addition of P.J. and Angela, NAFCU’s regulatory affairs team will be well-positioned to continue to advocate for our member credit unions on important regulatory matters before the agencies.”

Tefferi joined NAFCU in 2006. “His keen insight and knowledge of the credit union industry has been pivotal in providing regulatory analyses, preparing comment letters, and presenting NAFCU positions and regulatory activities to member credit unions,” the trade group said in a statement.
