Police arrested a 50-year-old man and his two adult children for robbing a branch of the Houston-based, $892 million First Community Credit Union in Katy, Texas, in October, and authorities say the three may also be responsible for five bank robberies in the Portland, Ore., area.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office in Fort Bend County, Texas said Ronald Scott Catt and his son Hayden Scott Catt, 20, are accused of walking into the First Community CU branch on Cinco Ranch Boulevard in Katy around 1:50 p.m. wearing orange traffic vests and dark sunglasses.
They then allegedly held employees at gunpoint and demanded cash. Police said the older suspect wore a painter’s mask and the younger suspect had on a fake mustache.
Ronald Catt’s daughter, 18-year-old Abigail “Abby” Catt, is accused of driving the getaway vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
Police said based on the male suspects’ attire, detectives connected them to an August robbery at a Comerica Bank branch in Harris County, Texas, during which suspects wore painter outfits with painter masks.
Detectives also tracked the orange traffic vests worn during the First Community CU robbery to a nearby Home Depot, where surveillance video captured the three suspects purchasing the vests and a painter’s mask.
Ronald and Hayden Catt were arrested at a Katy apartment complex on Nov. 9, and Abby Catt was arrested later that day at the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. They are being held at the Fort Bend County Jail on respective bonds of $140,000, $140,000 and $100,000.
Detectives believe the three family members — all natives of Oregon — are connected to five Portland-area bank robberies and have notified authorities in that state, according to the sheriff’s office.
