Warren Gets Seat on Senate Banking Committee: Reports

Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has been selected by party leadership to join the Senate Banking Committee next year, according to Tuesday reports in Politico and the Huffington Post.

The caucus must still approve the committee makeup for the next Congress; Warren will fill one of two open Democratic positions following the retirements of Sens. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) and Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii). Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is expected to fill the other position.

Warren is a polarizing figure in the credit union industry, having been endorsed by the Massachusetts Credit Union League but reviled by conservatives due to her legacy as the architect of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which has heaped unwanted regulations upon credit unions.

In her victory speech Nov. 6, Warren named credit unions among her list of supporters and said of groups that supported her campaign, “All of you have my back and I promise you, I’ll have your back.”
