First Tech Rolls Out New ATM Fleet

The $5.6 billion, 356,000-member First Tech Federal Credit Union in Palo Alto, Calif., said it has completed the installation of a new fleet of 114 customized ATMs.

The NCR machines include dip card readers and envelope-free deposits that can take multiple checks and cash at one time and check images on printed receipts. Users also can set preferences, such as favorite fast cash amounts and receipts.

Some of the machines also have hooks for hanging handbags, coats or dog leashes, and cup trays that double as a check-signing station, First Tech said. Anti-fraud features include requiring a separate PIN validation for each transaction.

“This prevents the common practice of walking away from the ATM without completely ending a session,” First Tech said in the announcement.

“To us, this wasn’t just a machine upgrade, but an experience upgrade. Instead of flashy, non-functional features, we’ve created an ATM that is efficient, secure and allows our members to make quick, monetary transactions and get on with their daily lives,” said Doug Marshall, the credit union’s chief membership officer.

First Tech partnered with Atlanta-based NCR and Companion Systems of North Salt Lake, Utah, to customize and brand the new fleet. First Tech members can use their ATMs and others in the CO-OP network free of fees.
