Credit Union-Backed Senate Candidates Win

Credit unions and their PACs were winners in a pair of 2012 Senate elections.

Senator Jon Tester (D-Mont.), best known to credit unions for his efforts to delay the Federal Reserve’s control over card interchange income, survived a close race against U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg. He also received partisan communication support from credit unions in that state.

In Massachusetts, Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren was victorious, defeating incumbent Scott Brown. Warren specifically thanked credit unions in her acceptance speech, and said she would “have the back” of her supporters when she takes office in Washington.
