Hurricane Sandy: Connecticut League Shut Down, Closings in Pennsylvania

The Credit Union League of Connecticut in Meriden closed its office Monday and has canceled all of its programs scheduled for Tuesday, said President/CEO Anthony Emerson.

“We also have many credit unions that are closed today and tomorrow,” Emerson said. “The governor has issued several warnings to stay off of the roads. Right now, it is windy and raining, but it’s not that bad. We are preparing for the worst, which is supposed to start later today.”

Meanwhile in Pennsylvania, many credit unions in the southeastern and central regions of the state have closed or are planning to close early, said Diane Powell, director of communications for the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association.

Powell and other PCUA employees are working from home because the league office in Harrisburg is closed today.

“It’s relatively calm at the moment, but we are expecting very high winds after 12 noon today, which are expected to continue through tomorrow afternoon,” said Powell. Because our area has a lot of power lines above round, we may have power outages.”
