Consumers CU Partners With K-Wing Icemen
Fans of professional hockey may be bemoaning the National Hockey League’s lockout. But that’s not the case in southwest Michigan where the Consumers Credit Union and its members–a good number of them big hockey fans– are looking forward to another season of minor league hockey with the Kalamazoo Wings team.
The $385 million Consumers CU of Kalamazoo, Mich., recently announced a new partnership with the K-Wings that will offer its 47,000 members discount ticket pricing at the 5,000-seat Kalamazoo Wings Stadium.
The credit union also will sponsor events such as K-Wings Education Day in which kids from across southwest Michigan can attend a special school-day game, and Family Hockey Day in the Zoo that will feature family-centered activities at all Sunday home games.
“This particular partnership is focusing on family friendly activities that our members can take part in that won’t stress the family budget,” said Lynne Johnson, chief marketing officer for Consumers CU. For example, credit union members can purchase discount tickets for two adults at $25 or a family four-pack of $43. Regular ticket pricing is $35 for two adults and $59 for a family of four.
“The K-Wings is a wonderful organization with awesome new activities inside the arena that we will be able to bring to our members,” Johnson said.
Consumers CU also will sponsor Save of the Game promotion at every home game. For every save the K-Wings goalie makes, a selected Consumers’ member (age 2-12) will have $1 deposited into his or her Dollar Dog account, which can average 20 to 30 saves per game. Additionally, the Save of the Game participant will receive four free game tickets and the chance to go out on the ice prior to face-off time.
