Hurricane Isaac: CUNA Mutual Says No New Damage Reports

Reports of loss stemming from Hurricane Isaac continue to be on the low end thus far, CUNA Mutual Group said Tuesday.

CUNA Mutual Insurance Society, a subsidiary of CUNA Mutual, provides property and casualty insurance products to credit unions.

“We likely won’t see any more on this storm unless something unusual surfaces,” said Phil Tschudy, media relations manager for CUNA Mutual.

On Friday, the company said as of Aug. 30, it had received reports of one credit union sustaining a major flood loss and seven others that experienced damage to their interiors, roofing, siding, windows and signs.

Meanwhile, like the attendees at last week’s Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., Quorum Insurance LLC was likely watching Hurricane Isaac’s track as well. The Tampa-based firm serves nine credit unions.

“Fortunately for the Tampa Bay area, Isaac was virtually a non-issue,” said Kim Brubaker, vice president and chief operating officer for Quorum. “We had some heavy rains and wind, but no severe damage in or around the area where we’re headquartered. I did not see an increase in new claims from our major property insurance carriers.”

As Louisiana, one of the states hardest hit by Isaac, begins the cleanup process, the U.S. National Hurricane Center reported Tuesday it is continuing to watch Tropical Storms Leslie and Michael. Leslie could become a hurricane by the weekend with Bermuda in its direct target, according to forecasts.
