Christian Community Credit, San Dimas, Calif., recently celebrated President/CEO John Walling’s 40th year at the credit union. He was honored at the credit union’s annual meeting. Walling began his career at what was then American Baptist Credit Union, where assets had just surpassed $7 million with more than 5,700 members. There was one branch at the time and members used passbooks to record their transactions. Under Walling’s leadership, Christian Community Credit Union has grown to more than $532 million in assets. With two branches, the staff serves nearly 29,500 churches, ministries and their members in over 100 countries. Walling began as the credit union’s assistant manager in June 1972. Six years later, he became the general manager. In 1984, the board of directors appointed him as president/CEO. Walling currently serves as a board member of Payment Systems for Credit Unions Inc. and is also the treasurer of Christian Community Credit Union’s board of directors.
Veridian Credit Union, Ankeny, Iowa, announced that Rachel Meyer has been promoted to the position of supervisor of its branch in Johnston. Meyer has worked at Veridian for seven years and was most recently a loan officer. She has a BA in management, with an emphasis in human resources, from the University of Northern Iowa.
MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union, Macon, Ga., welcomed Trey Ogle as the new Bass Road branch manager. Ogle comes to MidSouth from Security Bank of Bibb County and has more than 10 years of banking experience. He received his bachelor’s of science from Georgia College & State University.
Fairwinds Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., has named Melvin Ramen regional vice president of branch services. In his new role, he will oversee the management, sales and operations of eight branches in Orange and Seminole counties. Ramen has been in the financial services industry for almost 10 years, joining the credit union in 2005. He moved his way up after managing branches in Orange City and Deltona. After an opportunity in the financial industry took him to England in 2010, Ramen returned to Orlando in May 2011 and resumed his position as the vice president, branch manager of the Winter Garden location. Originally from the island of Mauritius, Ramen earned his BA in management studies from the University of Mauritius.
Georgia United Credit Union, Duluth, Ga., announced two additions to their executive management team. Todd Gustafson joined Georgia United as chief financial officer. For the past 11 years, Gustafson served as the senior vice president/chief financial officer for Baxter Credit Union and was primarily responsible for leading the accounting, finance, audit and risk management functions of the $1.6 billion credit union. Prior to his career with Baxter, Gustafson worked in leadership roles with regional bank holding companies and as an auditor for KPMG LLP. Gustafson is a licensed CPA and a graduate of Bradley University, with a degree in accounting. Shawn Turpin joined Georgia United as vice president of branch operations. Turpin will be responsible for the leadership and development of the retail team comprising 15 branches and 130 associates located across Northern Georgia. He has 16 years of combined retail, business and commercial banking experience. In his previous role, Turpin served as vice president of commercial banking for KeyWorth Bank from July 2008. Prior to joining KeyWorth, he spent the bulk of his career with IronStone Bank from April 1997 to June 2008. He served in multiple roles throughout the years, including senior vice president for commercial banking and retail banking manager, where he oversaw the branch network and associates. Turpin currently serves on the board of directors for GA Resource Capital, a certified development company, specializing in the SBA 504 Loan Program. Turpin is a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in finance.
GFA Federal Credit Union, Gardner, Mass., recently announced the promotion of Marissa Vescovi to consumer underwriter. Vescovi has more than eight years of consumer lending experience and previously held the position of consumer loan processor. In her new role, she will be responsible for reviewing consumer loan applications submitted through a branch, online or through a GFA lending partner.
Service Credit Union, Portsmouth, N.H., appointed Lori Holmes assistant vice president of marketing. After joining the credit union in 2008 as a segmentation officer, Holmes served as special projects and public relations manager later that year and was then promoted to marketing manager in 2010. Holmes has 25 years of public relations and journalism experience. She has a bachelor’s degree in English and journalism from the University of New Hampshire. Holmes will report to the vice president of marketing, Karen Benedetti. She will be responsible for assisting Benedetti in marketing activities, managing Ecommerce, overseeing corporate and departmental project completion, managing social media and directing public relations. Holmes will directly manage a staff of six.
EHS Design, Seattle, Wash., announced that Chris Hamilton, has joined the firm as a principal. Hamilton comes to EHS Design from Callison LLC, where he served as founder and principal in charge of the financial industry group. At EHS, Hamilton will oversee client and business development for the financial, retail and corporate sectors. At Callison LLC, Hamilton started the financial industry group, growing the group from $75,000 to $11 million in gross yearly earnings and expanding the department to 90 employees. Hamilton’s former client roster includes Key Bank, Chase, HSBC, Wells Fargo and Union Bank. International banks, such as Bancomer Mexico and Banco de Chile, have also hired Hamilton’s teams.
